Guatemala Non-Profit Project

A big piece of news for me this past year has been my involvement in a wonderful non-profit that helps Guatemala children get schools, books, and teachers in very needy communities. My dear friend David La Motte, a fine singer-songwriter from Ashville NC, started PEG partners nearly 5 years ago http://www.pegpartners.org/ The organization has since helped with 12 projects from building schools, paying for teachers, books and furniture for several libraries, and assisted with the building of other schools.

Long story is, last May I was on the road driving and I was thinking, ‘I love this job of mine but it seems so much about me all the time. My songs, my gigs, etc etc.’ I then thought, ‘Universe, if there's a project I can help with, show it to me’. Whoa, same day I get a call from David saying he's been offered a full ride scholarship in Australia for a Masters Degree in International Peace making and was looking for someone to be a spokesperson for the cause. I didn't think twice, I said I will do what I can. I went down to Guatemala with David in Oct to see the work they have contributed to first hand. It was my first trip to a developing country and it was eye-opening, to say the least. On one level it's a very beautiful country with exotic birds, banana and avocado trees everywhere. And on another level it is a country with widespread poverty, unclean living conditions, and a suspect government. We were mostly in the mountains where most folks are of Mayan decent. Beautiful souls.

My job is to mention it at my gigs and put out a basket for donations. Every penny goes directly to the projects helping needy kids in Guatemala. I have seen the work and am humbled at how much can get done with so little money.

So in this time of economic doubt, instead of clenching tighter, look into your heart and send a donation to our brothers and sisters in such need. You can visit http://www.pegpartners.org/ and mention I sent you. Or send a check to:
